OTP Bank provides UAH 2.3 billion in financing to small and medium-sized agribusinesses since the beginning of the year
Despite the challenging situation in the agricultural market, JSC OTP Bank has provided UAH 2.3 billion in financing to small and medium-sized agricultural producers since the beginning of the year. This was announced by Pavlo Huzyr, Head of Alternative Sales Channels at OTP Agro Factory, during the roundtable discussion “Farmers Between Two Harvests: Where to Find Financing for the Sowing Campaign” organized by the Financial Club.
Banks are currently witnessing a shift in the structure of financing demand within the agricultural sector. While businesses previously focused more actively on investment loans, today the priority is securing working capital to finance sowing campaigns and support day-to-day operations. In 2026, OTP Bank’s financing structure for small and medium-sized agricultural producers was divided into 65% working capital financing and 35% investment lending.
According to Pavlo Huzyr, the agricultural sector is currently facing pressure from several factors simultaneously, including rising interest rates, declining liquidity, and challenges related to crop sales. As a result, it is important for agricultural producers to begin building financial reserves in advance and, when necessary, secure financing limits with banks ahead of time.
The banking sector continues to maintain sufficient liquidity to support agriculture. An additional source of support remains the government-backed 5-7-9% Affordable Loans Programme, which helps farmers navigate a period of elevated interest rates. At the same time, agricultural receipts remain one of the most effective financing instruments available to the sector. They enable producers to obtain financing secured by future harvests without the need to provide a substantial amount of traditional collateral. For many farms, this remains one of the most accessible ways to raise funds for seasonal needs.
“OTP Bank is the leading provider of financing secured by agricultural receipts within the banking sector. Since we began working with this instrument, we have provided agricultural producers with approximately UAH 12 billion in financing. For us, it remains one of the most effective ways to support clients, as it enables farmers to access the resources they need before harvest. We also see significant potential in the new instrument of agricultural notes, as well as in the broader digitalisation of agricultural finance, which will make financing faster, simpler, and more convenient,” said Pavlo Huzyr.
In the coming years, the competitiveness of agricultural businesses will increasingly depend not only on crop yields but also on logistics efficiency, storage capacity, processing capabilities, and access to financing. Under these conditions, OTP Bank remains a reliable partner for its clients, offering an individual approach and competitive financing solutions.
